FAQ 1 - How do I know if my resident state requires annuity training?
FAQ 2 - My resident insurance license is in a state that does not require initial annuity training, according to the landing page prompts. I hold an active non-resident license in another state. Do I still need annuity training?
Possibly.
You need to take annuity training according to the requirements for all of your non-resident state licenses.
- If all of your non-resident states produce the same message on the drop-down menu, indicating there is no training required, skip to FAQ 5.
- In FAQ 1, selecting New York as the resident state indicated there was no required initial annuity training.
This is true, as New York did not adopt the NAIC Annuity Suitability training model mandated by
insurance carriers in a majority of states. Many licensees in NY also hold a non-resident license in
New Jersey, which does require initial annuity training.
-
If you select a non-resident state and get the following prompt, you know you have an annuity training requirement for that state, and possible other non-resident state licenses, depending on which you hold.

FAQ 6 - What ongoing annuity training is required if I hold a license in California?
California requires both resident and non-resident producers to complete a state-specific, 8-hour annuity training course before selling, soliciting, or negotiating any annuity products.
California requires on-going annuity training of at least 4 hours every license renewal cycle thereafter for both resident and non-resident producers.
FAQ 7 - What ongoing annuity training is required if I hold a resident license in Texas?
Texas requires resident producers to complete an initial 4-hour annuity suitability training course before selling, soliciting, or negotiating any annuity products.
Resident producers only are required to complete 8 hours of on-going annuity CE during each 2-year license renewal cycle.
Note: CE exemption status does not apply to initial or ongoing annuity and long-term care training requirements. See TAC Rules 19.1023 and 19.1029.
FAQ 8 - What if I'm exempt from CE in Texas?
Texas may provide a continuing education (CE) exemption to general and ethics requirements and this granted status should appear on a producer's CE transcript.
If a producer reaches permanent exemption status from CE, the producer is still required to complete annuity training and long-term care training per Texas Administrative Code - Rules 19.1023 and 19.1029.
FAQ 9 - Is annuity training reciprocated with all states?
California is the only state that requires annuity training, but that remains non-reciprocal with any other state’s NAIC-based suitability training.
-
CA does NOT accept training completed in other states, and NO other state accepts training completed in
CA to satisfy initial Annuity Suitability or Best Interest training requirements.
